We are getting ready to have a fabulous time dancing in the streets on Saturday 31st July.
みなと祭りの季節です！！！
7月31日（土）に参加する、素晴らしいダンス“かっぽれ”の準備をしています。

So far we have had 2 great practice sessions with our fabulous teacher Kiyoe on Sunday mornings - from 9am - 11am. Not only do you get a great workout with a fabulous teacher - you get to hang out with great people!!!
It's hard but it is also FUN!
これまで、素晴らしい先生、キヨエの指導のもと、日曜日の朝（9時～11時）に2回練習を行いました。
練習をするだけでなく、すてきな人たちと楽しい時間を過ごせますよ。

無料！のフリーマーケット”って何？

ピース・ナウ清水では７月４日（日）に“Free（無料）”マーケットを開催します。通常の“Flea”マーケットとは違い、金銭のやり取りをせずに物品等を無料で提供するものです。

人は皆、さまざまな技術や才能・アイデアを持っています。また、笑いあったり友達になったり、楽しいことや話したいことなどたくさん分かち合えるものを持っています。“無料！のフリーマーケット”で共に過ごし分かち合えば、日々の暮らしがより豊かなものになると思います。

提供品は、本・雑誌・服・食べ物・自転車の部品・飲み物・シャンプー・道具・CD・家具・自家栽培の野菜や果物・電気器具など（これはほんの一例）、誰かの役に立つと思うものなら何でもどうぞ！また、物だけでなくあなたの技術もOK。例えば、ヘアカットをしてあげたり、自転車の修理・タロット占いやマッサージ・瞑想を教えたり。技術等を提供する場合は場所を確保するのでブライアンまでE-mail（arrrclifton@yahoo.com）でご連絡ください。（物品のみの場合はE-mailでの連絡はいりません。お気軽にお越しください。）

So, What is a Really Really Free Market?

On July 4th Peace Now! Shimizu will hold a Really Really Free Market. The Really Really Free Market is a market where no money changes hands—it operates acording to gift economics.

We all have skills, ideas, objects, smiles, talents, friendship, excitement, discussions and many other things to share. If we bring them all together at the Really Really Free Market, we can provide more full lives for everyone.
An impossibly short list of things you can give away at the Really Really Free Market includes: books, magazines, clothing, food, bicycle parts, drinks, vegetable starts, shampoo, tools, CDs, furniture, extra fruits or veggies from your garden, appliances—whatever you think would be useful to someone else.　The Really Really Free Market is also a great place to share your skill with someone else. If you can give haircuts, repair bicycles, read tarot cards, or teach people about massage or meditation then please email Brian at arrrclifton@yahoo.com so that we can make sure you have a proper space during the market. We are also looking for people who would like to play music during the market.

Why hold a Really Really Free Market?
l Because sharing is more fulfilling than owning.
l Because as a community we have many more resources than we do as individuals.
l Because if we share our resources we will need to use fewer of the Earth`s resources.
l Because we live in a society, not an economy.

PHONICS !

Our kids at OEK have been working hard at learning phonics over the last month. Everybody enjoys doing the actions that go with each sound.......and it makes learning them so much easier ! This is a picture of Neneka, Moeka, Riku and Terumasa in my K3 Tuesday class. They have been practicing very hard......keep up the good work !

Hi Everyone,

Last Sunday OEK hosted a Welcome and Farewell party for Suzy and I, and even though it was rainy out, inside it was fun fun fun!

I was in for a surprise when Naomi and Yoneko took me aside to dress me in a kimono for the first time. I've never had the opportunity to wear a kimono before, so it was a very special moment for me, and one that I won't forget.


Afterward I was surprised again when I walked back into the big classroom to see so many students and their families ready for me with their cameras. It was like being a movie star for an hour! I took photos with many of my students, some of which I've posted onto the school's photo page.

Today is my last day at OEK and it's hard to believe that it's time for me to go. I've been at OEK exactly two years and one week since I started teaching here, and while the time moved so quickly, it feels like I have been here forever! OEK is my second home, and Shimizu is my Japanese hometown. I will miss this place dearly.

I'm staying in Shizuoka for the next year or so, so I hope that I can see you all around the city. I hope to come to Kappore, Halloween and OEK parties and events in the future, so maybe we'll be able to meet again!

I want to say thank you to everyone that I have had the pleasure of working with over the last few years. Thank you to the OEK staff, old and new, for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime and making me a part of the OEK family. Words can't express the gratitude and love I have for you, and I can't thank you all enough!! It's been such a crazy adventure!! I'll cherish these memories for the rest of my life.

5月23日（日）、OEKで“スージーと私の歓送迎会”が行われました。外は雨だったけど教室の中はすご~く楽しかったです！
NaomiとYonekoが他の部屋に連れて行って着物を着せてくれたのにはビックリでした。着物を着るのは初めてで本当に貴重な経験でした。絶対忘れません。
着物に着替えてパーティーの部屋に戻るとまたまたビックリ。たくさんの生徒さんとその家族の皆さんがカメラを構えていてくれたんです。この1時間はムービースターのような気分でした。たくさんの生徒さんと写真を撮り、その何枚かを教室ホームページの“Photo”ページに載せてあります。“Photo”ページから写真のコピーができるので、ご自分の写真が欲しい方はコピーしてくださいね！
今日はOEKで働く最後の日。今日が最後なんて信じられません。ここで先生になってからちょうど2年と１週間。あっという間に時間が過ぎてしまったけど、なんだか長い間ここにいた気がします。OEKは私の第2の我が家。清水は日本での私のホームタウン。ここを離れるのは本当に寂しいです。
あと1年くらいは静岡にいるので、町のどこかで皆さんにお会いできることを祈ってます。清水みなと祭りの“かっぽれ総踊り”やハロウィーンなどのイベント、パーティーにも参加したいと思います。だからまたお会いできるでしょう！
この2年間みんなと一緒に楽しく働けたことを感謝しています。OEKスタッフのみんな、素晴らしいチャンスをありがとう。OEKの一員になれて嬉しかった。言葉ではみんなへの感謝の気持ちと私の思いを伝え切れません。感謝してもしきれないです。本当に素晴らしい経験でした。ここでの思い出を一生大切にします。
本当に本当にありがとう！心の底から皆さんに、ありがとう！

HELLO FROM SUZY

Hello OEK friends old and new !

First of all I'd like to say a big THANK YOU to Kim for being such and important part of the OEK team for the last two years. Thank you for all your hard work, excellent teaching and dedication to your students. We will miss your warm smile and sense of fun ! All the best with your next endeavor.

It's great to be back as a teacher at OEK after an absence of 7 years ! It is a joy to be working in such a unique and beautiful place, and with a great team of people. I hope I can get to know those of you I don't already, and re-connect with students "of old"! As I have a 3-year-old daughter, I won't be teaching any night classes, but hope to see night students at OEK parties and events.

最初にまず私からKimに「ありがとう」って言いたい。この2年間おしゃべり英会話教室のスタッフとして皆を支え、たくさんのハンドワーク、すばらしいレッスンを作り上げてくれたKimの全てに感謝を言いたいです。私たちは、あなたの温かい笑顔、笑いが大好きで寂しくなりますが、次のステップに向けベストを尽くして欲しいです。がんばれ！

さて私は7年のお休みを得てようやくOEKのスタッフとしてまた戻ることができ、とても嬉しく思います。すばらしい仲間たちとユニークでとても素敵な場所で働くことは喜びであります。昔からの生徒さんはもちろん、新しい生徒さん達のことを、これからたくさん知れたら嬉しいです。私には今3歳になる娘がいますので夜のクラスにはなかなか顔を出せませんが、夜の生徒さんにもOEKのパーティーやイベント等でお会いできることを楽しみにしています。

Peace Now! Shimizu

Soon we will start a peace group at the Umegaoka classroom. The name of the group will be Peace Now! Shimizu, and we will meet once a month on the first Sunday of the month.

The aim of the group is to bring together a diverse group of wonderful people to build community and work towards peace and justice. We hope to foster this peace personally, locally, nationally and globally and find ways to live in harmony with the earth and each other.

Peace Now! Shimizu is not affiliated with any religious or political group or philosophy. We strive to be inclusive rather than exclusive—so please bring along your friends! Peace Now! Shimizu is also not English class—when you come please feel free to speak in whatever language you feel most comfortable with.

Peace Now! Shimizu is a great place to share your unique gifts. Do you have a workshop that you would like to lead or know of a really fabulous speaker to invite? If you have any ideas about possible activities for the meetings, or if you can volunteer to help out with the group somehow then please email Brian at arrrclifton@yahoo.com .

グループ名は「ピース、ナウ、清水」
毎月第一日曜日に開催します。

多様なバックグラウンドを持つ素晴らしい人々が集まり、
地域のために平和について考えようというのがその趣旨です。
そこで考えた「平和」が、個人的に、地域で、国単位で、
あわよくば世界単位で皆が仲良く暮らしていけることを
考えるきっかけになることを願っています。

このグループは既存のどんな宗教、政治、哲学グループ等にも属していません。
できる限りオープンで開放的な空間を作っていきたいと思っています。
