Happy Spring!

Hello Everyone!

I'm so glad that it's finally stopped raining! After what seems like an eternity of rain, it's finally starting to be sunny outside, and our cherry blossom tree is starting to bloom. The garden at Umegaoka is coming alive with various trees budding and blossoming.

It's spring vacation for most of our younger students, but just a reminder that the last week of classes is March 29th to April 3rd. The new schedule for 2010/2011 will begin on Monday, April 5th. We're all looking forward to another great year together!

Dear OEK family and friends,

The time has come for me to say goodbye, and to let you know that I'll be leaving OEK at the end of May. I've had and amazing time at OEK, and reflecting back on all the things I've learned, experiences I've had, and the people I've met makes me realize how much OEK has changed my life for the better.

I came to OEK in May 2008 by chance: a friend of a friend was looking for a new teacher, and I was looking for something different in my life. I wanted to find direction, be challenged, and see the world. With this job I took a chance, and flew halfway around the world on my first solo-adventure away from home. It was one of the best decisions of my life.

I arrived in Japan with wide eyes, a curious mind, and no Japanese at all. Living in Japan and teaching at OEK has taught me so much more than I could have imagined, and each and every day I am still fascinated by the quiet beauty of a culture and language that, while so familiar to me, is still so foreign.

OEK has been my home away from home, and it’s staff and students a second family. My life in Japan has been nothing short of amazing, and my experiences here have helped me to grow both as a teacher and a person. So much as changed in two years! I've seen babies turn into kindies, teenagers graduate from high school, beginner students learn to have great conversations, and shy students breaking out of their shells. Being a part of your lives has been so rewarding, and so I walk away from this school as a stronger, confident and more capable woman. For this I will always be grateful.

My father once told me that “travelling is an education, too”. If that's the case, I plan on being a student of the world. I hope that you all can do the same! The best of luck to you in all your future endeavours. And from the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for all the laughter, love and kindness.

Dear OEK family and friends,

とうとう私にも皆さんにサヨナラを言わなければいけない日がきてしまいました。5月末おしゃべり英会話教室（以下OEK）を去ることになりました。OEKでは素晴らしい時を過ごしました。ここで経験したことや学んだこと、出会った皆さんのおかげで以前より成長できたとつくづく思います。

私は2008年5月にひょっとしたことがきっかけで日本に来ました。友達の友達が日本で英会話講師を探していると…。ちょうどその時私の中で何かチャレンジしたい、もっと色々な世界を見てみたいと思っている時でもありました。そしてこの仕事が決まった時、まさに私の世界がかわった時でした。初めての一人での家からの旅立ちでした。目を大きく見開き好奇心いっぱいで全く日本語の分からなかった私は日本に着きました。日本での生活・OEKでの仕事は私が想像していた以上に毎日その時その時私にたくさんのことを教えてくれました。日本に慣れた今でもこの国の一つ一つの美しさ、言葉だったり文化だったり、今でも魅了されます。

OEKは私のホームタウン以外で、もう一つの家でありスタッフや生徒さんは私の家族です。日本での生活は驚くことばかりでした！でもここで経験したことは講師として人として私を成長させてくれました。私がいたこの2年間でたくさんの変化もありました！ベイビーが幼稚園児になり、高校生は学校を卒業して、英会話初心者の生徒さんは会話が上手にできるようになったり、おとなしかった子が伸び伸びと自分を出してくれるようになったり。皆さんと係われたことは貴重な経験でした。経験を積み、前より強くなり自信も持ててステップアップしてこの教室を旅立ちます。感謝の気持ちはずっと忘れません。


私の父が言いました。旅は一つの教育でもある…。　もしそうならば私はこの先この広い世界で一人の生徒であり続けます。皆さんの人生もそうであり続けると願います。皆さんの未来に幸あれ！　そして最後に心の底から皆さんに言いたい。たくさんの笑い・愛・優しさをありがとう！

Spring has Sprung!

Hi Everyone,

Spring has arrived! The weather is warming up at OEK and our trees are budding! In a few weeks the garden will at its best, with our cherry blossom tree getting ready to bloom in a few weeks. We're looking forward to the warmer weather and all the beautiful spring colours!

OEK's Shinnenkai

Hello Everyone!

This Saturday, January 30th, OEK will be having it's annual Shinnenkai at Upstairs Izakaya, close to Shimizu JR Station. Last year's Shinnenkai was lots of fun, and we're looking forward to this year's party too! There are photos of last year's Shinnenkai on OEK's website, which you can view here.

みなさん、こんにちは。
今週の土曜日、１月３０日、　毎年恒例の新年会を清水駅近くのアップステアーズで行います。去年の新年会もとっても楽しかった。みんな今からとても楽しみにしています。去年の新年会の写真もOEKのwebsiteに載っているので見てね。

Happy New Year!

This year I stayed in Japan during the winter holiday, and my wife Akane and I welcomed our friend Colin for a visit. Colin's hometown is Lyon, France and we all worked together when we lived in London.






We spent a beautiful winter day at Miho beach and went on lots of other little adventures. Colin is quite interested in fashion and designing clothing so we took a trip one day to Harajuku to check out the scene there. We also made mochi with my wife's family in Mishima. On New Year's Eve we braved the cold and went to pray and drink sake at the fox shrine near our house.

Akane only has a few more months to go before we will welcome our first child. We are both excited and busy making preparations.

I hope that 2010 is full of wonderful things for all of you. See you at OEK!

訳）　ハッピーニューイヤー！

今年の冬休みは僕の奥さんアカネと僕らの友達フランス　リオンから遊びに来ていたコリンと一緒に日本で過ごしました。　僕達３人は以前ロンドンで一緒に働いていたんだ。

休み中は冬のとっても穏やかな美しい三保の海岸へ行ったり、他にも色々なところへ行きました。コリンはファッションにとっても興味があり、原宿へ行ったりもしたよ。それとアカネの実家で年末にはもちつきもしました。３１日は近所の神社でお参りし酒を飲み、年を越しました。

僕達の赤ちゃんがもう少しで産まれます。僕たちは、とっても楽しみで準備にも大忙しです。

２０１０年、皆さんにとって良い年になりますよう…祈っています。　それではOEKで！

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Welcome back to OEK! We hope you all had a great winter holiday and a wonderful new year celebration with your friends and families.

The OEK staff is back to work today ... everyone is happy and refreshed after going off on their separate winter adventures. The teachers have had a busy couple of weeks, and we're looking forward to talking to our students about our winter travels:

Brian and his wife, Akane, stayed in Shimizu to settle into their new house, and welcome a few friends that came to visit over the holidays.

Cynthia returned home to America to visit with her friends and family.

Martin travelled to Italy and Bulgaria, sightseeing and visiting his family in Europe.

As for me, I went to Australia, visiting Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. While there, I was able to meet with former OEK teachers Jo, Rebecca, Mark and Bex, and visit Jayne's home in Adelaide Hills. And I was able to pet a sleeping koala in Sydney!

Make sure to ask your teachers about what they did for winter vacation when you see them in class! And be ready to talk about your own experiences as well.

Happy 2010!! We're all looking forward to seeing you soon.

皆さん、明けましておめでとう!!

皆さん、ご家族やお友達と楽しいお正月を過ごしましたか？そうであると嬉しいです。

今日からOEKスタッフ全員、教室に戻ってきました。それぞれ楽しいお休みを過ごし、とってもハッピーでリフレッシュしております。講師たちは皆忙しい冬休みを過ごしていたようです。その話をクラスで皆さんに話すのを楽しみしているよう…。

　ブライアンは奥さんのアカネと清水で引越しをしたばかりの家の片付けと、友達を迎えてのアットホームな楽しい冬休みを過ごしたようです。

　シンシアはアメリカへ帰り、家族や地元の友達と過ごしました。

　マーティンはイタリア・ブルガリアへ行き、ヨーロッパにいる家族に会ったり、観光したりしました。

　私は、オーストラリア　メルボルン・シドニー・アデレードへ行ってきました。オーストラリアへの滞在中おしゃべり英会話教室の昔の講師たち、ジョー、レベッカ、マーク、ベックス、そしてジェーンの家にも行ってきましたよ。それと、寝ているコアラをなでてきました。かわいかった!!!

　
　クラスへいったら講師に冬休みの話を忘れずに聞いてね。それと自分の冬休みの話も忘れずにしてね。

２０１０年おめでとう！　皆に会うのを楽しみにしているよ！
