Big Changes at OEK

In the middle of February I thought I would be working with this great team of people for 2011. But within 2 weeks everything changed! Talk about a big surprise! So at the end of march half of our team will be saying good-bye to OEK! And we will miss them!
Suzy will be going to live in Osaka for a couple of years as her husband has been transferred there. But hopefully we will see her back at OEK in a couple of years. Brian is off to Mishima so his family can be close to his wife's family home. Hopefully he can come and dance the Kappore with us! Martin has left to New Zealand. Megumi is challenging herself in becoming an English Translator. They will be starting new lives and challenges. And with all our love we wish them well! Besides once you have worked at OEK you are always a part of the family!

OEKが大きく変わります

2月半ばの私は、2011年も今の素晴らしいメンバーと一緒にいると思っていました。
でも、ここ2週間でいろんなことが変わりました！このスゴイ変化についてお話します。
3月末で、半分のスタッフがOEKにさよならを言います。さみしい！
スージーは数年、大阪に住むことになりました。彼女のご主人が大阪に転勤になったからです。数年後はこのOEKでスージーに会えるといいなと思っています！
ブライアンは三島に引っ越します。奥さんの実家の近くに移ります。港かっぽれに踊りに来てくれたらいいなと思ってます！
マーティンは、ニュージーランドへ行きました（一時的ですが）
メグミは翻訳者を目指して。
皆、新しい人生と挑戦を始めます。残るスタッフも彼らを心から応援しています。
OEKで働いてくれたあなたたちは、ずっとOEKファミリーだからね！

Hello - I'm back in Japan

Hi this is Jayne here and so happy to be back in Japan - just wish it was a little warmer but not long to wait now! Spring is just around the corner!

So what have I been doing before coming back to Japan? Amongst my many jobs my garden has been keeping me very busy!
And it has been harvest time around my house - though sadly I won't get to eat my apples - they will be ripe in the next week or so. We have to net our fruit trees as we have many hungry birds around, like this photo of a colourful rosella. After the harvest we always leaves some fruit on the trees for the birds.
And as we thin the apples out Mary - our very fat sheep is in sheep heaven - she loves apples























Such a fat happy sheep!!!











But I was lucky with my fat juicy plums. We invited our neighbours over and picked and climbed our plum tree. And then for the next couple of days I was busy cutting and cooking up plum stew and freezing it. Then sharing the love with friends and family!






And then there have been buckets and buckets of blackberries. But those thorns! My arms were scratched to pieces but I do love my blackberries! Again making lots of stew - but cooking in summer is not so much fun - however my freezer is full. Fruit pies in the winter!




And after harvesting the plums we all were starving - hamburgers cooked over an open fire. ...Yum!
I am so looking forward to catching up with all my students. Even though its harvest time in Australia OEK is a great place to come to!

ハロー！　日本に戻ってきましたよ

こんにちは、ジェーンです。日本に戻り、嬉しいです。
ちょっとでも暖かくなっていればいいな、なんて思ったけど、思ったより暖かい。春はもう、すぐそこに来ているね！
日本に来る前、私は何をしていたと思う？いろいろな日々の仕事をしてたけど、とにかく庭仕事がいっぱいあって忙しかった！家の周りにフルーツの木があって、収穫真っ盛り。でも悲しいことに、リンゴはまだ食べれず――翌週かそこらで、食べ頃になるの。
おなかをすかせた鳥たち（写真のカラフルなナナクサインコとか）も待っているので、木の実にネットをかけます。収穫が終わると、実を少し残して鳥たちにあげます。
そして、リンゴの実の間引きをするとき、メアリー（私たちの太っちょ羊）は、至福の時間。なんて幸せな太っちょの羊さん！！
でも、プラムは実も大きくジューシーでよかった。ご近所さんを招待して、木に登って取りました。収穫して2日間ほど、プラムをカットして煮込んで甘露煮を作り、冷凍し、忙しかった。出来上がったそれは友達や家族におすそ分け！
その後は、たくさんのブラックベリーを収穫。でも、木にはとげがあるの！腕はとげにひっかかれたけど、私はブラックベリーが大好き！またまた、たくさん甘露煮を作りました。――夏の料理は大変だよね。でも頑張ったので、うちの冷凍庫は満タン。冬に食べるフルーツパイ！
プラムを収穫し終わると、みんな、腹ペコ。火をおこしてハンバーガーを作って食べました。おいしかった！
生徒の皆さんとお話しするのを楽しみにしています。オーストラリアは今、収穫時期だけど、OEKは素晴らしいところだから来ましたよ！
