ケン先生からの挨拶

Dear friends at OEK,

I wanted to write to all of you to let you know that I am leaving OEK at the beginning of October. I feel that it’s time that I have a new adventure and I feel a need to spend more time with my friends, family and Canada’s wide-open spaces.

It is not an easy decision, because, all of you have come to be a big part of my life over these past 2 years in Japan. I have loved every minute of it, even though there have been many challenges; I have grown considerably as a person because of them. I consider every person I’ve met through this school, whether you are 7 months old or 70 years old, as a friend. You have really made me feel at home in a land that, as a child, I only ever dreamed about visiting. I wanted to thank all of you for everything you’ve done and for you to know that you all have very special places in my heart.

OEK is such a magical place. It’s a place where: the staff can have meetings under a sakura tree, kids can run and play with their teachers, the boss can spray you down with a water hose if you’re hot, butterflies and lizards can laze in the gardens and it’s a school where students are not only taught, but where the teachers are also taught by the students. I really do hope that with my departure you continue to study here and have fun in OEK’s relaxed and unique atmosphere and take part in great events like Kappore, dinner parties etc that it hosts.

Although I’m moving back home to Canada, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to maintain contact with OEK and with all of you. I’m not done with Shimizu or OEK and would love to visit again in the future. I would love to see you all again!

This is not “Sayonara!”; it’s “See you later.”

訳）おしゃべり英会話教室のみんなへ

　僕は10月初旬におしゃべり英会話教室を去ります。ただ素直に今が次のステップにいく時だと思ったし、またこれからカナダの広いスペースで家族や地元の友達と一緒に過ごす必要があると感じたからです。　僕にとって、これは簡単な決断ではありませんでした。この2年で皆は僕の人生のとても大切な存在となりました。僕自身たくさんのことをチャレンジしなければならない2年でもありましたが、毎分その時を楽しみ愛することができました。人としても、とても成長できました。この教室を通して出会った全ての人、7ヶ月の赤ちゃんから70歳の方、みんな僕の友達です。僕は子供の頃、日本という国に行きたいなぐらいに思っていましたが、皆のおかげで今はただの夢じゃなく日本は僕のふるさとでもあります。みんなは僕の心のとても大切な人。

おしゃべり英会話教室は素晴らしい所です。ここはスタッフが桜の木の下でミーティングをし、子ども達は先生たちと思いっきり笑い遊び、暑い時ジェーンはホースで水をかけてくれるし、蝶々やトカゲは庭でのびのび生き、ここはただ生徒達が学ぶだけではなく生徒から講師たちも学ぶことができる。僕が去った後も皆このリラックスできるユニークな教室でたくさん学び、たくさん楽しんで欲しい！

僕が帰るからって決してこの教室・皆の事がどうでもいいって思っているわけじゃないよ。まだ清水・OEKでの僕は終わってない！将来絶対にまた皆に会いにきたいと思っている！

これはサヨナラじゃなくsee you later !
