Winter

I have been in Japan for over a year now and have already experienced a winter here.  I recently heard that Shizuoka was the second warmest place in Japan and while I don't know if that is actually true, it is still considerably colder than the place I come from ... Florida.  Thankfully, my apartment has good heating and I'm feeling ready for this winter.

What does winter really mean for me in Japan?  So many wonderful things!!!  Nabe, heated toilet seats, shabu shabu, clear skies for seeing Mt. Fuji, strawberry picking, heated rugs, kotatsus, hot green tea, lots of parties in December and January, and so much more!  Thank you OEK for having me another year!

訳） 日本での生活も一年が過ぎ、ここでの冬は一度経験しています。静岡は日本で2番目に暖かい場所だとよく耳にします、それが本当かどうかは分かりませんが、私の故郷フロリダと比べるとかなり寒いです。でも、ありがたいことに私のアパートは日当たりがよく暖かく冬の準備はばっちりです。

私にとって日本の冬と言えば???　たくさんの素晴らしいものがある！鍋、暖かい便座、しゃぶしゃぶ、富士山と澄んだ空、イチゴ狩り、ホットカーペット、こたつ、温かいお茶、12月1月の忘新年会、他にもいろいろ！　今年もOEKにいさせてくれて、ありがとう！

Hello from Katie

First off... A big "THANK YOU" to all who came to OEK's Halloween party.  The staff had a really great time!  We loved seeing your costumes and getting to spend time with you outside of class.  We really hope you enjoyed it too!

Lately, I've been obsessed with the sky of Japan.  I can't help it.  Every time I look up I see something amazing... a pink moon, a fabulous soft blue sky, a tangerine sun setting into the mountains, strange gray dragon clouds making their way across the heavens.  In Florida, the sky is also beautiful but so different.  I'm enjoying my days of looking up at the magical space above Japan.  Feeling lucky to be right where I am!

まず最初にハロウィンパーティーに参加してくださった皆さん、心から「ありがとう!!!」

みんなの仮装姿、レッスン以外にみんなと時間を過ごせたこと、スタッフ一同心から嬉しく思っています。みんなも楽しんでもらえたなら嬉しいな。

近頃、私は日本の空のとりこになっています。これ止まりません！毎回驚くほど綺麗な空に心うばわれます。夕焼けに染まった月、柔らかな青いブルースカイ、真っ赤な夕日が山へ沈んでいくところ、まるで天国へ続いていくように見えるドラゴンのような形をした雲…。フロリダの空もきれいですが、日本の空はまた格別ですね。

私はこの魔法にかかったような日本の空の空間を毎日楽しんでいます。

自分がここ日本にいること、とってもラッキーに感じます。
